Leeds Beckett University is a modern professional university with a strong civic mission and deep regional connections. Through excellent education, impactful research and meaningful partnerships, we make a positive difference to our students, our communities and the organisations we serve.
We are now seeking to appoint a Dean of the School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing (BEEC), one of the University’s largest and most distinctive academic Schools.
BEEC brings together a broad range of disciplines connected by a shared focus on sustainable places, digital innovation and applied professional education. The School’s work contributes directly to many of the major opportunities and challenges shaping society today, including the future of cities, infrastructure, sustainability, technological change and community resilience.
With more than 3,600 students and around 150 staff, the School is a substantial academic community with a strong reputation for professionally relevant education, research, knowledge exchange and industry engagement. The School encompasses disciplines including computing, engineering, surveying, construction, planning, housing and geography, creating opportunities for collaboration across a diverse academic portfolio.
This is an important appointment for the University and an exciting opportunity to lead a School that is performing well and looking confidently to the future.
Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean will provide strategic and operational leadership across all aspects of the School’s activity. As a member of the University Leadership Team and Senior Management Group, the successful candidate will contribute to the wider strategic direction of Leeds Beckett University while ensuring the continued success and development of the School.
We are seeking an experienced academic leader with the credibility to lead a large and diverse academic community. Candidates may come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds aligned to the School’s portfolio, but they will bring a successful track record of leadership, strong people management skills, sound financial and operational judgement, and a commitment to delivering excellent outcomes for students.
The successful candidate will be collaborative, visible and inclusive in their approach. They will be able to build confidence across a broad academic community, work effectively across institutional boundaries, and engage positively with industry, professional and civic partners.
