The opportunity

We’re supporting a Scottish university to appoint an Interim Deputy Academic Registrar for 9 months. The institution has good people and solid foundations – what’s needed now is a senior, visible presence who can strengthen operational grip, support the Academic Registrar, and help the team move forward with calm, practical leadership during a busy period.

What you’ll be focused on

The core of the role is student records and academic governance – bringing consistency and rigour to the full student record lifecycle, including the handling of suspensions, withdrawals, and related changes, while ensuring Registry processes and compliance remain tight. Alongside that, there’s a genuine people dimension: working visibly with the Registry team and Executive colleagues, supporting better ways of working, and helping to embed a more student-centred culture across the department. There’s also a structural piece in the background, contributing thinking on the wider Registry operating model and supporting ongoing integration work with the Students’ Association.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have demonstrable experience at Deputy Academic Registrar level or equivalent in higher education, with solid knowledge of student records management, SITS, and the sector’s regulatory landscape. Just as important is how you work, the institution wants someone who integrates well, builds trust quickly with both operational staff and senior stakeholders, and provides stability without overcomplicating things. Immediate or near-immediate availability is essential, as is a track record of leaving departments in better shape than you found them.
