Deputy Deans x 3

Anderson Quigley is delighted to be partnering once again with GBS, part of GEDU Global Education, on a number of newly created Deputy Dean roles to boost leadership capacity and capability for their faculties and partnerships.

Please note, these are fully on-site roles, for five days a week, based at any of GBS’ UK campuses in West London, East London, Manchester, Birmingham, or Leeds (with regional travel involved).

Who is GBS?

GBS is a major force in UK Higher Education, supporting over 50,000 students through vocational, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses. As one of the largest Higher Education Institutions in the country, the scale of the impact you could have here is enormous.

Their mission is clear: to be a gateway to diverse, industry focused education and to transform communities by expanding access to high quality learning. GBS are committed to championing inclusivity, empowering non-traditional student demographics, and boosting career prospects through strong employer connections. If you believe that education is a key driver of socioeconomic progress, GBS’ vision will be highly aligned to yours.

Overview:

GBS is seeking between two to three Deputy Deans to provide academic and operational leadership across their expanding faculties. Reporting to the respective Dean of the Faculty and Partnership and working closely with the Executive Director of Academic Operations, each Deputy Dean will ensure the successful delivery of all academic activity within their faculty, driving high standards in teaching quality, performance, and compliance.

Day to day: You will lead large, multi-disciplinary teams responsible for student success, retention, faculty operations and administration. A key part of your remit will be to deliver operational excellence, ensuring systems, processes, timetabling, workload planning and resource allocation are efficient, effective, and fully aligned to institutional KPIs. You will also deputise for your Dean, shaping academic quality, enhancing the student experience, and ensuring continuous improvement across your area of responsibility.

Career development potential: Whilst these Deputy Dean roles are high-impact operational leadership roles, they also present a defined and reliable progression opportunity for those who wish to prove themselves and be considered for a merit-based promotion to a Dean role in the future. For ambitious academic leaders, this represents an exceptional opportunity to build strategic leadership experience at scale within one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing higher education institutions, and in time, to earn significantly more than is typical at this level in the public sector, through a combination of salary growth, promotion, and generous performance-related bonuses.

Essential criteria:

Extensive academic leadership experience within a large, complex higher education environment is essential. You will have managed teams at scale, delivering measurable improvements in quality, performance, and student outcomes. You will bring strong organisational and analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions. A skill set in academic operations, academic quality, and faculty management is essential, combined with the professional and academic credibility to deputise for your Dean, and in time, be progressed to that level yourself. You may currently be operating in a Head of Department / Head of School / Associate Dean / Deputy Dean capacity and may be aspiring towards a Dean role in the future; an ambition which GBS could help you achieve.
