Anderson Quigley is pleased to support De Montfort University (DMU) with the appointment of an Interim Deputy Director of Communications. This is a key interim leadership post, providing stability and senior direction to a busy and valued communications service at a time of continued change and opportunity for the University.
Terms:
This is a 6 month interim role, with potential to extend. The preferred start date is end of October or early November, and candidates should be available to start quickly. The role can be offered on a 4 or 5 day per week basis, with an on-site presence of two days per week in Leicester required.
Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, the Interim Deputy Director will lead a well established team spanning engagement, media and operations. You will ensure the delivery of a high quality, professional communications service, maintaining pace, consistency and confidence through a period of transition.
Working closely with senior stakeholders including the Vice Chancellor and Chief Transformation Officer, you will provide strategic communications advice and oversight of key university wide initiatives. These include major transformation projects such as DMU’s ten year campus development programme, the launch of its London campus, and digital transformation initiatives aligned to ‘The Empowering University’ strategy.
This interim role will combine institutional leadership of external and internal communications with responsibility for reputation management, employee engagement, and student-facing communications, contributing directly to staff morale, organisational culture and the student experience.
Essential Criteria:
We are seeking an experienced higher education communications leader, ideally at deputy or assistant director level, with the ability to lead complex teams and operate confidently at institutional level. You will bring depth in communications rather than generalist marketing, with the credibility to advise senior executives and the interpersonal skill to build trust quickly across the University. This important interim role would suit a capable and hands-on leader able to provide reassurance, direction and continuity during a period of change.
