Head of School of Science, Technology and Health

York St John University is seeking an innovative and dynamic leader for the position of Head of School of Science, Technology and Health. This role presents a unique opportunity to shape the future of learning and research in these critical areas at our vibrant institution, dedicated to inspiring students and staff to realise their full potential.

As a member of our Senior Strategic Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership and accountability for the School, ensuring we deliver on our commitment to educational excellence and community engagement. You will inspire a dedicated team fostering an inclusive environment that aligns with our shared vision for success.

We believe education must focus not only on academic achievements but also on nurturing personal development, resilience, and well-being. The successful candidate will possess a strong academic background and a proven track record in leadership, ideally within higher education. Your ability to inspire and engage colleagues, students, and stakeholders is crucial. You will need an understanding of current trends, the challenges and opportunities presented by changing policies, and a commitment to innovative teaching and research practices.

We are seeking a Head of School who embodies our values and is focused on driving performance outcomes that impact students, staff, and the wider community positively. You will redefine our curriculum and adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students and stakeholders. In this role, you will lead strategic initiatives that foster an innovative academic environment, empowering both staff and students. Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor of Education, you will ensure exceptional performance across teaching, research, and community engagement while developing a high-quality, relevant curriculum.

Your strategic vision will enhance our regional and international reputation and promote interdisciplinary collaboration with internal and external partners. Emphasising academic rigour and originality, your leadership will enhance our research and knowledge exchange, contributing to strong performances in national assessments such as the REF and TEF. We are particularly interested in candidates who can cultivate strong partnerships with external stakeholders and internal support services, enhancing the student experience and employability prospects.

As Head of School, you will shape and implement the strategic roadmap for the School, aligning with the overall York St John Strategy and leading the continuous enhancement of our curriculum and pedagogical approaches. Your efforts will ensure outstanding quality indicators and student satisfaction, while promoting proactive collaboration across the portfolios of Research, Teaching and Knowledge Exchange with colleagues across the University. A core part of your role will be to foster a culture of mentorship and support for academic colleagues, ensuring they build the skills and confidence needed to excel.

At York St John University, we celebrate the individuality of our community and are committed to fostering a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. If you are a passionate leader eager to make a significant difference and advance our mission of providing inclusive, transformative education, we invite you to apply for this exciting position.
