Interim Assistant Director, Student & Programme Administration
Fixed-Term Contract | c.£80k | Hybrid

We’re seeking an experienced, people-focused leader to join a major UK university as Interim Assistant Director, Student & Programme Administration. This is a key appointment at a time of significant transition, with responsibility for ensuring consistent, high-quality student and programme administration services across the institution.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Student & Academic Services and managing a team of c.70 staff (with 5 direct reports), you’ll lead school-aligned administration teams, a central student lifecycle function, and the student records team. You’ll play a vital role in keeping core operations moving during a period of change, while also supporting recruitment to newly created roles and helping to embed service excellence.

Immediate priorities include:

  • Leading and delivering a successful enrolment period
  • Overseeing preparations for the January graduation ceremony
  • Ensuring assessments run smoothly and programme data is accurate
  • Maintaining business continuity and supporting day-to-day delivery
  • Building relationships with newly appointed Deans of School
  • Inputting into recruitment across the function
  • Supporting improvements in student records systems – experience of SITS (or similar) is an advantage

We’re looking for someone confident operating at a strategic level, but equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves to get things done. You’ll be credible, resilient, and able to lead teams through complexity with empathy and a steady hand. Hybrid working is available, with on-campus presence required during peak activity.
