The Role
Aston University is seeking an innovative and strategic technology leader to join us as Chief Information Officer (CIO). Your mission will be to ensure that our digital investments not only support institutional growth but also enhance academic excellence and operational efficiency. Your collaborative approach will unite various functions across the University, promoting an integrated pathway to innovation while balancing risk with progressive technological advancements.
The successful candidate will refine and expand Aston University’s Digital Enterprise Strategy to align with our strategic objectives, while leading digital transformation initiatives that enhance research capabilities and stakeholder engagement. A key focus will be on creating and executing a comprehensive AI strategy that fosters innovation in research, academic support, and administrative operations, all while ensuring the ethical deployment of AI.
Your responsibilities also include overseeing the IT function to maintain robust governance, data security, and compliance with regulations, thereby ensuring a high level of cybersecurity and seamless digital support for students and staff. Additionally, you will oversee digital projects to prioritise initiatives aligned with the University’s strategies for maximum return on investment. A significant aspect of the role is to define the digital services workforce strategy and drive automation initiatives for improved operational efficiency, alongside building strong relationships with academic, research, and administrative teams, as well as external partners and vendors.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
At Aston University, you will work with cross-functional teams that are at the forefront of digital innovation in education. You will lead a vibrant and diverse team poised to make a significant impact. You will contribute to shaping the future of digital technologies in higher education while ensuring a safe and secure digital environment for all stakeholders.
