Anderson Quigley is delighted to support the University of Buckingham in appointing an Interim Pro / Deputy / Associate Dean for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science (FMHS), the second of two interim roles we are marketing.
Practicalities:
This is a six-month FTC, offered on a salaried basis with an immediate or ASAP start (latest by January). Full-time is preferred, although 0.8 FTE may be considered. Hybrid working is required, with 2-3 days per week on-site (accommodation support may be available).
The University:
The University of Buckingham stands out as one of the UK’s most innovative institutions. Renowned for its personalised, student-first approach, it is the only private university with a Royal Charter. Buckingham pioneered the UK’s accelerated two-year degree and was the first to introduce a 4.5-year undergraduate medical degree, providing a faster route to qualification without compromising quality. With exceptional support through small-group academic tutorials and dedicated pastoral care, the University offers an inspiring environment where students and staff alike can achieve excellence.
Overview:
As Interim Pro Faculty Dean of FMHS, you will lead the faculty through a pivotal period of opportunity and growth, shaping strategic priorities, enhancing recruitment, and building on the faculty’s reputation for delivering outstanding education. A key focus will be strengthening undergraduate Medicine and postgraduate recruitment by implementing innovative strategies and engaging with UK and international audiences.
You will play a key role in enhancing National Student Survey (NSS) outcomes for the medical school, help drive the development of the new School of Dentistry for the university, and foster a collaborative culture that supports both staff and students during this transformative period. Reporting to the Executive Dean, you will collaborate with senior leaders, external stakeholders, and partners to deliver operational excellence and shape the Faculty’s future success.
Essential Criteria:
You will bring a proven record of academic leadership within higher education, including managing faculties or departments at a senior level, within medicine, clinical, or healthcare-related disciplines, e.g., at Head of Department, Associate Dean or Deputy Dean level. You must demonstrate the ability to inspire teams, take a collaborative leadership approach, and drive operational excellence to support student success. Experience in managing budgets, ensuring quality, student recruitment and retention, and leading change initiatives is crucial.
