Anderson Quigley is delighted to support the University of Buckingham in appointing an Interim Executive Dean for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science (FMHS), the first of two interim roles we are marketing.

Practicalities:

This is a six-month FTC, offered on a salaried basis with an immediate or ASAP start (latest by January). Full-time is preferred, although 0.8 FTE may be considered. Hybrid working is required, with 2-3 days per week on-site (accommodation support may be available).

The University:

The University of Buckingham stands out as one of the UK’s most innovative institutions. Renowned for its personalised, student-first approach, it is the only private university with a Royal Charter. Buckingham pioneered the UK’s accelerated two-year degree and was the first to introduce a 4.5-year undergraduate medical degree, providing a faster route to qualification without compromising quality. With exceptional support through small-group academic tutorials and dedicated pastoral care, the University offers an inspiring environment where students and staff alike can achieve excellence.

Overview:

As Interim Executive Faculty Dean of FMHS, you will provide leadership during a critical period of growth and opportunity, helping to enhance the faculty’s academic reputation, enrich student experiences, and drive strategic priorities. A key focus will be revitalising recruitment strategies to attract top-tier candidates for undergraduate Medicine and postgraduate taught programmes, fostering sustained growth and ensuring strong demand and accessibility for programmes within the UK and globally.

You will play a pivotal role in enhancing NSS outcomes for the medical school and also contribute to the development of the university’s new School of Dentistry. By fostering a positive and collaborative culture, you will support staff in navigating a period of change with confidence. As a decisive interim leader, you will ensure operational excellence and uphold the faculty’s position as a pioneer within healthcare education.

Essential Criteria:

You must have substantial experience in senior academic leadership roles within medicine, clinical, or healthcare-related disciplines, e.g., at Dean or Executive Dean level. Crucially, you will bring expertise in faculty leadership, academic development and improving student experience and recruitment, alongside a sound understanding of the healthcare education landscape. Professorial-level recognition in a relevant discipline is desirable, whilst effective resource management, and the ability to inspire and lead teams is key.
