Anderson Quigley is delighted to take to market a fantastic new role with Bournemouth University: An Interim Head or Deputy Director of Facilities Management, to focus on soft services.
Practicalities:
This is a 6-9 month contract, ideally offered on an FTC salaried basis, with an immediate or ASAP start, although a December start could be accommodated. Full-time is preferred, but 0.8 FTE may be considered. Hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days per week on-site in Poole will be required (travel/accommodation support could be considered).
Overview:
In the critical role of Interim Head of Facilities Management (FM), you will manage all “soft” FM functions, including outsourced services, procurement, cleaning, catering, and security. Working closely with the existing FM team, you will focus on delivering high-quality, student-centred services that enhance BU’s estate while maintaining cost-efficiency and sustainability.
Your focus will be on managing in-house and outsourced suppliers, overseeing contracts, and ensuring smooth operational support. A flexible approach is essential, as there may be potential adjustments to the Estates and Facilities portfolio.
You will collaborate with senior management to provide a seamless transition and to help shape the portfolio structure in alignment with BU’s objectives. Additionally, you’ll support change management projects related to sustainability, decarbonisation, travel, and transport, as well as lead various initiatives around campus, building and space utilisation. This is an excellent opportunity for an interim FM leader with a strong grasp of people and change management to make a significant impact during a transitionary period.
Essential Criteria:
Extensive experience leading soft FM services for large, diverse estates is essential, along with a strong grasp of environmental management and proven success in driving complex change and process improvements.
Also essential are strong leadership skills, with a record of motivating and managing staff across sustainability, space management, and other support areas. Key competencies include strategic vision, analytical ability, and the skills to engage and inspire multi-disciplinary teams. Effective interpersonal and senior stakeholder management skills are vital. Proficiency in IT, complex financial, people, and performance management, and the ability to meet tight deadlines, is essential.
