As the University builds on its proud heritage, we are looking for exceptional people to help shape our future. We provide a high-quality professional environment, inspired by our distinctive ethos and Catholic mission and values. Our values of excellence, generosity of spirit, inclusiveness and respect inspire us to create an academic community in which everybody is welcomed and which puts the student at the centre of all our endeavours.

At St Mary’s University, we are dedicated to preparing our students for flourishing lives and successful careers within a community of mutual respect.

In challenging times, we continue to thrive, achieving real progress and success in student satisfaction, research and community impact. We have recently climbed to our highest ever positions in two of the major university guides and the Complete University Guide 2024 ranks St Mary’s 7th for student satisfaction. The 2021 Research Excellence Framework results found that the majority of research submitted by St Mary’s was 4* world leading or 3* internationally excellent in its originality, significance and rigour.

We are now seeking to appoint a dynamic individual to the position of Dean of Education and Outcomes, a newly created position focused on shaping and enhancing the overall student learning experience and outcomes at St Mary’s University. This includes the University’s approach to education and student experience including innovations in teaching delivery, building communities and bringing the student voice and equality, diversity and inclusion agendas into key committees and decision making. Reporting to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer, the postholder will work collegially with colleagues across the University, including St Mary’s Student Union, to ensure the delivery of high-quality education, fostering an environment that empowers students and academic staff in the delivery of an exceptional student experience. The postholder will also lead the University’s engagement with relevant areas of the external regulatory landscape and the development and implementation of the University’s Access and Participation Plan, Equality Charters, Disability Confident Scheme and our LGBTQ+ inclusion project.

You will bring a substantial and demonstrable record of outstanding achievement in a senior academic leadership role and experience of driving change and impactful outcomes in education and the student experience. You will also have experience of leading transformational change in learning and teaching at institutional level and experience of interpreting pedagogical theory and innovation into actionable and impactful plans. You will bring excellent communication skills, including the ability to use advocacy and negotiating skills to effect change, along with an understanding of how this role can help to enhance the University’s widening participation, equal opportunities and social inclusion agendas, and a commitment to translating this understanding into action.

This role offers the opportunity to join St Mary’s at an exciting time and play a critical role in the advancement of the University, building our profile and reputation to help deliver our vision and ambitious agenda.

The closing date is noon on Friday 31st May 2024.

St Mary’s University is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
