Vice-Provost, Medicine
Reference:AQ2517
Specialisms:Education
Date posted:28th February 2024

Having established an important reputation in the education of future health workers, the University of East London (UEL) is now developing a profile in medicine.  We are looking for an exceptional individual to lead the delivery of a genuinely transformative approach to community health and preventative ill health care in East London and beyond.

The combination of the University’s values, relationships, history and setting position UEL very well to make a unique and highly valued contribution to medicine. With social justice, inclusivity, community, and the addressing of health inequalities (particularly those experienced in urban settings) as core values, the Stratford Health Campus is rapidly becoming the health education provider of choice for students wanting a high quality and transformative future-focused education. Building on this, we are currently planning the development on the Stratford Campus of a community medical centre with a specific focus on the provision of primary and rehabilitative care and preventive and public health services.  And we are leading the establishment of a civic agreement across major health-related anchor institutions based in East London.

Reporting to the Provost and working closely with the Vice-Chancellor & President, the post-holder will be a doctor registered and in good standing with the GMC and will lead the development of the University’s provision in the field of medicine. The principal target will be the establishment of an innovative medicine course along with the ‘professional development’ offer that reflects the needs of doctors, other clinical staff and employers in the locality with a particular focus on primary care and community health; the post holder will also drive the development of the University’s research and external engagement relevant to the practice of medicine.  The successful applicant must be able to build very strong and purposeful internal and external stakeholder relationships that will be essential to success and will have an excellent understanding of the processes that shape and govern education and research in medicine.

The closing date for applications is mid-April (to allow for Easter break), exact date TBC.
