We are on the lookout for a visionary leader to take the reins of a key role, shaping the future of the Financial Operations department at a prestigious university in the Midlands. In this pivotal position, you will be at the forefront of designing, reviewing, and enhancing a Financial Operations function that aligns seamlessly with the University’s overarching strategy.

As the driving force behind the Financial Operations teams —encompassing Procurement, Pay and Pensions, Accounts Payable, Travel and Business Expenses, Accounts Receivable, and Finance Systems — you will lead a talented team of approximately 75 individuals. Your mission? Cultivate a culture of collaboration, continual improvement, excellence, and efficiency.

Your impact will extend beyond day-to-day operations, as you provide strategic direction and meticulous scrutiny to ensure the seamless execution of activities in compliance with regulatory requirements. Anticipate the opportunity to spearhead the strategy and delivery of long-term system improvements, setting the stage for a new ERP system in the next 5 years. Collaboration is key, and you will work closely with colleagues from IT Services, Planning, Projects, and Business Intelligence, driving holistic advancements across Finance.

Partnering with the Head of Financial Control and Compliance, you will play a crucial role in fortifying our control environment, streamlining processes, and implementing system enhancements. Your extensive track record of team management, impeccable interpersonal skills, and collaborative approach will be essential. We’re seeking an individual with a knack for challenging the status quo and improving processes, backed by a wealth of experience in managing financial processing functions and shaping and enforcing associated policies and procedures.
