Are you interested in leading a top-ranked, triple-crown accredited (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) Management School?

We are seeking expressions of interest for the position of Dean, a pivotal role in leading the School’s academic community through the next phase of growth and development. As a renowned institution, we are committed to leveraging world-class research to nurture knowledgeable and employable students, while delivering our mission of having a positive societal impact, and fostering socially responsible management practices through world-class, innovative research and transformative education. We believe in the power of diversity to help us address big global challenges and aim to actively build diverse teams. We know that when people come together with different views, approaches and insights it leads to richer, more creative and innovative teaching and research, and better understanding of student needs.

The Dean of Sheffield University Management School will play a crucial role in shaping the institution’s future success. This involves developing an ambitious vision and strategy to ensure the School’s financial security and global recognition, aligning it with broader Faculty and University plans. In terms of leadership and management, the Dean will foster an environment conducive to active management and engaged decision-making, while contributing to the overall leadership of the Faculty. Financial oversight responsibilities include maintaining control over School budgets and shared costs.

As Dean, it is expected that you will have a strong academic record and standing, operating at Professorial level, with a proven track record of leadership and management. In addition, you should have a strong commitment to promoting a supportive environment that fosters excellence in research and teaching within the School. Ethical practices, continuous improvement, compliance, and adherence to Sheffield Academic Principles and sustainability initiatives are integral components of this multifaceted position.

To deliver in this exciting role, we are seeking a candidate with a doctorate in Management or related Social Sciences discipline, or equivalent experience, and a recognised leadership or management qualification (desirable).  We are open to applications from internationally recognised scholars with a profile commensurate with a Chair appointment in a relevant subject area. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate public engagement and impact. Strong leadership and management skills, commitment to diversity and inclusion, effective communication, and financial acumen are essential attributes.

The appointment to this leadership position is offered as either open-ended or can be fixed for circa 5 years after which you will join the School’s Professoriate full-time.
