The University of Nottingham’s founding pioneering spirit and ambitious vision still resonates and drives our University today, as we strive to deliver an exceptional research-led education to our 46,000 students, and to transform lives and societies around the globe through our world-leading research.

Our educational ethos is built on the premise that education transforms lives and unlocks potential and possibility. This drives our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as we encourage our students to be courageous, to achieve, and to shape the world around them. Ranked 7th in the UK for research power in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, our research is both extraordinary and world-leading, bringing together talented, passionate and dedicated people who strive to make discoveries that have a real impact on lives and societies across the world.

We are now seeking to appoint the Deputy Director of Libraries – Research and Discovery. Working closely with the Director of Libraries, the postholder will help to shape the vision and strategy of the department, developing and delivering key strategic priorities.

Core to the role will be responsibility for the strategic leadership and management of large-scale service functions, including leadership of three Associate Director positions: Research, Content and Discovery, and Manuscripts and Special Collections.

You will have a strong understanding of the higher education sector, its challenges and its opportunities and will maintain a focus on continual improvement, whilst fostering ambition and creativity and ensuring that our users are at the heart of our service delivery. As well as managing your own portfolio of work, you will deputise for the Director of Libraries as required, both internally, across the university, and upon external committees and groups.

You will bring relevant professional experience in an appropriate library or information service, along with excellent influencing skills gained at a senior level and a proven track record of motivating and inspiring a team. You will also bring a strong customer service orientation and experience of managing change programmes.

Our University is a supportive, inclusive, caring and positive community. We welcome those of different cultures, ethnicities and beliefs – indeed this very diversity is vital to our success, it is fundamental to our values and enriches life on campus.
