Birmingham City University is a thriving, modern university with a rich history in the city and wider region. With almost 28,000 students we are focused on teaching excellence, underpinned by research and enterprise activities, and place particular emphasis on practice-based programmes that support student employability, and excellent graduate outcomes. Across the institution we have revised the curriculum offer with all courses being professionally relevant and delivered in state-of-the-art facilities where we have invested £350m in recent years.
With nearly 10,000 full-time students our Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences is one of the biggest of its kind in Britain offering courses across health and social care, education, life sciences, and sport. We have invested heavily in creating a dedicated location at our City Centre South Campus, improving the student experience with a strong sense of community, consistent support services and a hub for the provision of public service contracts and professional development in the region.
With an improved REF outcome and an ambitious plan for 2028 we are a dynamic, applied research force within the UK higher education sector and are committed to continuing growth in research excellence, new knowledge generation and knowledge exchange. Couple this with the Faculty’s unwavering focus on giving students hands-on experience ensuring they are ready for employment, our new Associate Dean will embody and promote the applied nature of our research, innovation and enterprise activity.
Candidates will themselves be a leader in research and bring an excellent track record in managing a research and enterprise portfolio in a relevant discipline. Skilled at team building, creating buy-in and working with and through others, you will champion a vibrant, diverse and inclusive research community within the Faculty and be a powerful advocate to promote its interests. Extensively networked, you will support and develop research links and collaborative partnerships as well as contribute to wider University strategic agendas. Your student-centered approach also means that every decision you make puts students at the heart of everything, giving students the best opportunities for future success.
