Helene Usherwood joins Anderson Quigley

It’s been two months since I started my new role as Head of Practice for Health at Anderson Quigley. To say the time has gone quickly would be something of an understatement! Above all, it has been exhilarating; a rare and very real opportunity to shape and develop a new practice, focused on bringing to market a new and different approach to executive search and selection.

I was attracted to AQ because of its culture and values. As a purpose led organisation founded and driven by a core values set – diversity, integrity and hands-on project ownership, it was this proposition that sat so well with me and how I deliver.  I was delighted to join the team in May and have been humbled by the positive response I have received from across the health sector in introducing our firm.

The luxury of establishing a new practice has given me the opportunity to travel around the UK reconnecting with old faces but also meeting many new ones too! I have been struck by the willingness to share information and to discuss my methods of recruiting to attract new talent and address pressing sector issues such as improving the diversity of Boards.  I have also been able to learn more about local health economies whilst sharing my knowledge from a national perspective.

As I develop our Health practice and continue to identify broad themes and areas of concern facing the sector I will look to translate these into articles for future reading.  The challenges in the health sector have always been wide and varied, but the ability to deliver on its founding principles are under greater threat than ever.  Some may say that the part we play may seem insignificant to have any impact, however, I believe the expertise we provide in helping to deliver strong talent into senior positions does make a real difference to the organisations we support.

Back at our offices in Vauxhall, London (still very shiny and new, with the best view of the River Thames), I have been struck by the positive, warm and friendly approach taken by my colleagues. Busy delivering projects, they have taken the time to welcome and support me in developing the practice.  It’s clear that I have joined a team focused on making AQ a success, who aren’t afraid of pushing boundaries and who are willing to have some fun along the way.  I am excited for our future and what our firm can achieve.
