Head of Data – Barts Charity

Salary: £75,000 – £80,000 per annum, plus 10% employer pension contribution

Location: London EC1A (hybrid: Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the office)

Contract: Permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week)

Barts Charity is East London’s oldest healthcare charity. As the dedicated charity for Barts Health NHS Trust, it supports St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross, Newham, The Royal London and Mile End hospitals, and funds world-leading medical research with Queen Mary University of London and City St George’s. Its mission is simple: healthy East London lives.

The charity is now appointing its first Head of Data. This is a rare opportunity to build the data function from the ground up and shape how a well-resourced, ambitious charity uses data to make better decisions for one of the most diverse communities in the UK.

The role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead the data elements of the charity’s new Data, Digital & AI Strategy 2027–2032. You will:

  • Establish and own the charity’s data architecture, shared data models and integration across core systems, including Salesforce and Business Central
  • Put in place strong data governance and quality standards, creating a trusted single view of the truth
  • Build data capability and confidence across the charity, setting up a centre of excellence and growing a dedicated team over time
  • Work with senior leaders and external partners to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and lay the foundations for responsible AI, automation and advanced analytics

About you

You will be data leader who combines strategic thinking with hands-on technical judgement. You will bring:

  • A track record of delivering data strategies and leading change that improves data culture and maturity
  • Significant experience in data architecture, integration and shared data models
  • Strong grounding in data governance, data quality, master data management, privacy and ethical AI
  • Experience of analytics pipelines, reporting and data visualisation
  • Technical experience of data warehouse or lakehouse platforms, ideally Microsoft (Power BI, Fabric, Business Central) or Salesforce
  • Experience working with external agencies and technical partners
  • The ability to explain complex ideas clearly and bring colleagues with you
  • Experience in a small or medium-sized, resource-conscious organisation such as a charity, public sector or health body

What’s on offer

30 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, 10% employer pension contribution, private healthcare and an interest-free season ticket loan (after probation), an Employee Assistance Programme, regular training and individual development, and flexible working with core hours of 10am–4pm.

How to apply

Please send your CV and a supporting statement of no more than two A4 sides, showing how you meet the key skills and experience in the job pack, via the Apply Now link by Sunday 22 November 2026.

First-stage interviews (virtual) are planned for 7–9 December 2026, with second-stage interviews in person early January 2027.
