Oxford Archaeology is one of the UK’s largest and most respected archaeological and heritage practices, combining commercial excellence with a charitable mission to uncover, protect and share the past. As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking an exceptional Director of ICT & Digital Transformation to lead the next phase of our digital journey.

This newly enhanced leadership role offers a rare opportunity to influence organisational strategy, modernise technology capability and drive transformational change across a national organisation with over 500 colleagues.

Reporting directly to the Chief Finance Officer and sitting on the Senior Management Team, you will lead our ICT, digital and data strategy, ensuring technology becomes a catalyst for innovation, efficiency, collaboration and growth.

The Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional IT leadership role.

We are looking for an ambitious and visionary leader who can combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to delivery. You will lead the development of an integrated digital, data and technology strategy that enables Oxford Archaeology to work smarter, make better decisions and maximise its impact.

You will oversee our IT operations and digital transformation agenda, including:

• Leading organisation-wide digital transformation programmes
• Embedding and developing our newly implemented ERP platform
• Modernising technology infrastructure, enterprise systems and data management
• Driving innovation, including the effective and ethical use of AI
• Strengthening cyber security, resilience and information governance
• Building digital capability and confidence across the organisation
• Developing a high-performing ICT team and supplier network
• Ensuring technology investments deliver measurable business benefits

As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will also contribute to wider organisational leadership, helping shape Oxford Archaeology’s long-term future and strategic direction.

About You

You are an experienced technology leader who understands how digital transformation can reshape organisations, improve services and unlock growth.

You will bring:

• Significant experience leading ICT, digital and transformation strategies within a complex organisation
• A proven track record of delivering large-scale technology and business change programmes
• Strong knowledge of cloud technologies, Microsoft 365, Azure and information security
• Experience implementing integrated enterprise systems and moving organisations away from stand-alone platforms
• Expertise in supplier management, procurement and technology governance
• A strategic outlook coupled with the ability to roll up your sleeves and make things happen
• The ability to translate technical concepts into clear business value for senior stakeholders
• Exceptional leadership, relationship-building and communication skills
• Experience within the not-for-profit sector would be advantageous but is not essential.

Location & Travel

The role can be based from our offices in Oxford, Cambridge or Lancaster, with regular travel across the UK required. Occasional out-of-hours availability may be needed to support business continuity.
