Senior Data Governance Manager, London based charity
Location: London (hybrid)
Salary: £58,307 – £68,307 per annum

The Data Governance & Quality team are responsible for the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies, standards, and reporting on governance and data quality improvement. Their aim is to define and measure the quality of data by embedding data governance and quality standards into the organisational design, ensuring the delivery and maintenance of high data quality.
Job Purpose and Background:
The Senior Data Governance Manager will lead and support the creation and implementation of essential data governance policies and processes needed to mature the Data Governance Operating Model. You will develop data governance processes optimising and automating data collection, handling, storage, and sharing of all the charities data, ensuring transparency and effective data governance to improve quality, reduce risk, and deliver compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Data governance improvements by supporting the implementation of scalable processes across all data domains to enhance the products and services they contribute to
- Develop and implement methodologies, monitoring, and assurance mechanisms for data policies, such as retention and access to ensure they will comply with data protection regulations across its regions
- Work alongside IT and project teams during system development and change to develop effective data governance standards for enterprise-wide data management
- Work closely with Risk and Legal to assess information sharing agreements and third-party data access, ensuring the business operationalises legal agreements effectively
- Oversee the Data Quality Dashboard to continuously monitor errors and ensure that data stewards are proactively improving data quality across the charity
- Monitor and enforce Role-Based Access Control, playing a key role in investigating and addressing access violations and incidents such as data breaches
- Motivate, empower, and lead a data governance culture where staff can visibly recognize the value of data governance within their team, across the organisation and in the output we produce
You will have the following skills and experience:
- Information management or data governance qualification or at least 3 years of applied experience working within an information or data governance setting
- Demonstrable experience in leading data governance projects or large activities with a comprehensive end-to-end delivery approach, especially involving competing priorities
- Must be a self-starter, proactive, motivated, and collaborative with a strong ‘can-do and will-do’ attitude.
- Results-driven, with the ability to work in an Agile, fast-paced, and evolving environment
- Experienced in engaging and managing stakeholders to secure buy-in and align activities with strategic goals whilst applying relevant frameworks
- Analytical, with excellent and diverse problem-solving skills and curious attention to detail
- Experience deploying data governance tools to operationalise workflows, establish a common approach for monitoring and assuring data assets
- An understanding of data lifecycle and effective data governance best practices application across all phases of the lifecycle
- An understanding of relevant statutory frameworks applying to data governance such as the (e.g. UK GDPR)
- Capable of delivering impactful data literacy training to empower staff to take actions and improve how data is managed
- Experience in process design and policy implementation
- Experience in data cataloguing, mapping, and business glossary development.
- Good communication skills in English
- Experience in monitoring data for compliance and assurance within systems and databases, such as CRM and data platforms
