Appointment of a Non-Executive and an Associate Non-Executive Director

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NED) and Leicestershire Partnership & Northamptonshire Healthcare Associate University Group (ANED)

Welcome NED Applicants

Thank you for your interest in joining Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) as a Non-Executive Director with the additional responsibility of becoming our Non-Executive Director (Chair of Audit).

Our vision is to be a leading provider of outstanding compassionate care. Since becoming a Foundation Trust on 1 May 2009, NHFT has expanded the range of services we provide and developed new and innovative models of care, often in partnership with other local organisations. Indeed, working with a system-wide view across the integrated healthcare landscape is a cornerstone of our approach.

We are highly rated by NHS regulators, both in terms of quality and financial performance and whilst we are proud of our track record, financial pressures and ever-increasing demand for NHS services do present an ongoing challenge to the delivery of our strategies and plans. However our priority continues to be maintaining quality and safety at the foundation of all we do.

We are looking for a financially qualified individual, with experience of operating at board level, either as an Executive or Non-Executive.  Whether you have operated in the NHS or not, we need someone with good finance experience, able to take on the additional responsibility of chairing our audit committee. You will understand the complexities and challenges of working across multiple sites and will be open to developing strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders. Aside from your financial acumen, we are looking for an individual who can contribute to the whole strategic agenda and be an active participant on our Board.

Non-Executive Directors are appointed by and accountable to NHFT’s Council of Governors. The Governors comprise local people, members of staff and representatives of local partner organisations who provide an essential link between the Trust and the community it serves. As such a key part of the role will be to provide assurance to the Council of Governors that risks are being managed appropriately.

We all recognise that the NHS plays a crucial role in the life of the local community. As Board members of NHFT, Non-Executive Directors have a real opportunity to help shape the future direction and provision of health and wellbeing services in Northamptonshire and beyond.

I hope the information that follows will encourage you to join us on our journey.

Good luck with your application.

Crishni Waring
Group Chair, Leicestershire Partnership & Northamptonshire Healthcare Associate University Group

Welcome ANED Applicants

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) have worked in a group arrangement since 2021. During that time the Trusts have developed a range of initiatives including talent management, quality improvement, innovation and research and more. Each organisation has embraced the opportunity to collaborate on projects to the benefit of staff and those they care for and work with. They are developing a group strategy that will be launched in April 2025.

Angela Hillery was appointed as joint CEO of NHFT and LPT in 2019. By April 2021, the relationship between both Trusts transitioned into a Group Model (the Leicestershire Partnership and Northamptonshire Healthcare Group) with some shared Executives put in place.  I, Crishni Waring became Joint Chair in 2023.

As a result of the continued development of this Group Model, there is an opportunity to appoint a joint Associate Non-Executive Director (ANED). The ANED is aimed at potential Non-Executive Director candidates who have previous board-level experience but may not have worked within the NHS. As such, there is a developmental component to the opportunity, and the Board of both Trusts will support the successful candidate to bridge any knowledge gaps

We are eager to hear from individuals from a wider range of backgrounds who understand how to oversee the development of a multi-site operation and who can think beyond organisational boundaries bringing high levels of personal and business integrity to ensure exemplary standards of quality, probity, and governance. Experience of working in a group model would be desirable.

You will be able to demonstrate your own personal values as well as a track record of experience working in close partnership with internal and external stakeholders; drawing on your strong, all round communication skills and expertise.

NHFT and LPT celebrate multiple points of view, and we believe diversity drives innovation. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a track record in driving Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion related issues, together with the ability to demonstrate how you have challenged discrimination and inequality. You must evidence your ability to influence and persuade others, be committed to working as a team member and possess the motivation to improve NHS performance.
