Appointment of Director of People and Culture

Cardiff Metropolitan University

Welcome

Dear applicant

I am delighted that you have expressed interest in Cardiff Metropolitan University and in contributing to our progressive agenda for education, research, and innovation.

Cardiff Met is a vibrant community of around 12,500 students based on two campuses in Cardiff and over 13,500 trans-national education students studying our degrees at partner institutions in 13 countries around the world. The University is a driver of education and social transformation, a catalyst for innovation and the economy, and a key contributor to inclusive and sustainable growth in Wales and the wider world.

Our Cardiff Met community here in Wales and around the world has achieved tremendous success over the last five years. We will build further on this success as we embark on our equally ambitious ‘Strategy 2030’. The University has established itself as a progressive, values-driven university with an excellent student experience, staff culture and impactful research and innovation.

We were delighted to be Ranked 2022/23 No. 1 UK University for Sustainability in the People and Planet Green League in December 2022, awarded UK and Ireland University of the Year 2021 by The Times Higher Education in December 2021, and Welsh University of the Year 2021 by The Times and The Sunday Times in September 2020.

We are now seeking to appoint an outstanding leader as our next Director of People and Culture. The Director will be central to the University’s ambitions outlined in Strategy 2030, which is focused on working with purpose, impact, and compassion to make economies more prosperous, societies fairer, cultures richer, environments greener and communities healthier.

Over the past three years the People Services directorate has focused on delivering a significant transformational change programme repositioning the function as a strategic partner to the University and modernising service delivery.  It has become a progressive, agile, and enabling function.

This transformation programme has been a success and the Director of People and Culture will build upon the foundations now in place and deliver the final elements of the transformation plan. Cardiff Met is therefore looking for an exceptional leader to further strengthen and lead our high-performing People Services team to enable a purpose-led University and focus on developing organisational culture and leadership so that we attract and retain the best people and successfully achieve our Strategy 2030 aims and ambitions.

You can find out more about our wonderful University on this website, and I hope it will inspire you to express an interest in becoming our new Director of People and Culture.

With best wishes

David Llewellyn
